# Lanes

Add your own columns inside a pipeline stage on the Grow plan, and what happens to the cards in them.

A **lane** is a column you add inside a stage. For example, "Sample sent" inside Talking terms. Lanes come with the Grow plan.

A card in a lane still counts as that stage everywhere: in reports, in automatic moves, in the API and in webhooks. The lane only changes where it sits on the board.

## Add, rename, reorder and delete

Open **Stages and lanes** above the board. An owner or admin can:

- **Add** a lane: pick the stage, type a name, press **Add lane**. A stage holds up to six lanes.
- **Rename** it: change the name and press **Rename**. Each lane name is used once across the board.
- **Reorder** it: **Up** and **Down** move it inside its stage.
- **Delete** it: you see how many cards are in it first. Those cards go back to the stage's main column. Nothing else changes.

Any teammate can drag a card into a lane.

## When a card leaves its stage

A card that moves to another stage leaves its lane. For example, a card in "Sample sent" that you move to Onboarding sits in Onboarding's main column. This holds for automatic moves too. A reply moves a card in a lane to the right stage the same way it moves any other card.

## On other plans

On Launch, renaming and reordering the nine stages works. Adding lanes doesn't: the button points to the plans, and the server refuses the change too. Move from Grow to Launch and your lanes stay saved. Until you move back, every card sits in its stage's main column.
